Fabián Campos

(La Habana, 1995)

The photographic practice of Fabián Campos unfolds through memory and the poetic questioning of place. His work begins with a simple yet profound inquiry: How do places remember us? Through a lens that moves between the documentary and the symbolic, Campos maps the emotional traces people leave across Havana’s urban landscape.

Light becomes his narrative language. Using long exposures, color filters, and layered textures, he transforms photography into a sensorial experience where time stretches, memory fluctuates, and the city itself breathes.

“Light becomes his narrative language.”

Cuban identity emerges in his images as a stratified constellation — Indigenous, African, European, Soviet, and American — coexisting within daily life. Campos isolates and recombines these intersections with a reflective gaze, avoiding exoticism and inviting instead an ambiguous, participatory reading where the viewer completes the image’s meaning.

His work resists visual stereotypes of the Caribbean through subtle gestures: veiled faces, cropped bodies, and quiet silences that reveal the layered complexity of contemporary Cuban experience.

Taken together, his practice forms a poetic archive of the present — one in which Havana appears as both a living memory and a site of constant reinvention.

Campos has exhibited his work in both solo and group shows, including “Invisible Threads” (Habana Espacios Creativos, 2024), the International Photography Contest Exhibition (Casa del Alba, 2023), and “Havana: A Dialogue in Light” (Fábrica de Arte Cubano, 2022).

Working across both analog and digital mediums, Campos combines technical precision with an expressive sensibility. His practice represents a new generation of Cuban visual artists redefining identity through introspection, memory, and experimentation.
